How long would it take to get my OCI?We aim to get your OCI application completed in three days from start to finish, filling forms, documentation and completing all formalities. After the application is submitted to VFS centre, the OCI will be issued approximately 6 to 8 weeks from the High Commission of India.

How do I make a booking at VFS?Our package includes a booking at the nearest VFS centre to your residence. We have a system in place for booking appointments at VFS with our team regularly checking until we find you one and this is included in our fee. We also ensure that you pass your interview at the VFS the first time as the decline rate for incorrectly filled applications is quite high which is why it’s better to leave it to the experts.

How long would it take to get my Renewal OCI after application submission at VFS?If you transfer your OCI from old passport to the new one, you should get it within 10-12 days from the High Commission of India.

I am applying on behalf of a family member. Do they have to come to VFS with me?One nominated person can submit applications on behalf of their family members including their children, spouse, parents or grandparents. You do not need to send children to VFS and their OCI applications can now be made on their behalf. There are a few necessary documents and consent letters that need to be submitted at VFS when one applies on behalf of their spouse, children, parents and grandparents.

How long will VFS hold my passport and documents for OCI application?When applying for OCI, VFS will not keep any documents except your birth certificates which they will post back to you, usually within two weeks. The entire OCI application process might take longer, usually around 8 weeks.

I have recently acquired a new passport; do I need to re-issue my OCI card?OCI Card renewal is only required once after acquiring a new passport after turning 20 years of age

What are the benefits available to an OCI Card holder?An OCI card holder gets the following benefits: A multiple entry, multi-purpose life-long visa for visiting India. Exemption from registration with local police authority for any length of stay in India. Parity with Non-resident Indians (NRIs) in respect of economic, financial and educational fields as per the relevant Acts, except in relation to acquisition of agricultural or plantation properties. OCI can be used as identity proof for application of PAN Card and driving license as well as for opening a bank account if the OCI card holder is residing in India.

What are the benefits to which an OCI card holder is NOT entitled to?The OCI Card holder is not entitled: to vote; to be a member of a Legislative Assembly or of a Legislative Council or of the Parliament of India; to hold Indian constitutional posts such as that of the President, Vice President, Judge of the Supreme Court or High Court etc.; He/she cannot normally hold employment in the Government to undertake any Missionary work, Mountaineering and Journalism without prior permission of the Govt. of India; OCI cardholder shall also require Protected Area Permit (PAP)/Restricted Area Permit (RAP) to visit any place which falls within the Protected/Restricted Area notified by the Government as in the case of any other foreigner.

Can foreign nationals, who are not otherwise eligible for OCI, get OCI if they are married to persons who are eligible for OCI?Yes, the spouse of foreign origin of a citizen of India or spouse of foreign origin of an Overseas Citizen of India cardholder registered under section 7A and whose marriage has been registered and subsisted for a continuous period of not less than two years immediately preceding the presentation of the application.

Are Minor children eligible for OCI Card?Yes, minor children whose both parents are citizens of India or one of the parents is a citizen of India are eligible for OCI Card.

What should be done for issuance of duplicate OCI Card in case of loss of OCI Card?In case of loss of OCI documents, file a complaint with the Police authorities. Apply online for reissue of OCI under lost category through VFS. Please submit physical copy of application along with required documents (including Police Report) to VFS center by Walk-in or Mail.

My old passport with ‘valid Indian visa’ is lost. How can I get fresh visa on new passport?Same category visa can not be re-issued, even on different passport, to an applicant during the validity of existing visa. Fresh visa will be issued only when first visa has either expired or is lost (Police report of lost passport is required).

What is eligible criteria to get Indian Tourist Visa ?Indian Tourist visa is granted to a foreigner whose sole objective of visiting India is recreation, sight seeing, casual visit to meet friends or relatives, attending a short term yoga programme, short duration medical treatment including treatment under Indian systems of medicine etc. and no other purpose/ activity (Short term yoga programme means a yoga programme not exceeding 6 months duration and not issued with a qualifying certificate/ diploma etc.) Processing Time : If everything are in order (i.e documentation etc.) it will take 4-5 working days for US Passport holder (excluding VFS mailing time).

My Passport will be expiring soon/running out of pages which has valid Indian visa in it (and I already applied for my new Passport), Can I travel on valid visa on my old Passport ?Yes, your Visa is valid till it expiry date, but while traveling you have to carry this old Passport with valid visa along with your new Passport.

I am holding dual nationality (i.e. Pakistan & USA), but holding only one Passport (i.e. USA), which documents are required to apply Visa ?A. USA passport holders of Pakistani origin must submit their visa application form along with: a. Certificate of Renunciation of Pakistani Citizenship b. US passport with valid Pakistani visa OR Copy of the Pakistan Overseas Card
